Bird Box Deleted Scene Revealed the Film’s Mysterious Monsters – CBR

Netflix’s new original horror film, Bird Box, features supernatural monsters that kill their prey once they are seen with the creatures never actually revealed visually over the course of the movie. However, the cast and crew have since confirmed that a scene filmed, but ultimately deleted, from the movie that unveiled what the monsters actually looked like.

“There was a time when one of the producers was like, ‘No, you have to see something at some point’ and forced me to write essentially a nightmare sequence where [protagonist] Malorie experiences one in that house,” explained writer Eric Heisserer in an interview with Bloody Disgusting.

“It was a green man with a horrific baby face,” elaborated star Sandra Bullock. “It was just a long fat baby.”

The filmmakers eventually convinced the producers that the sequence revealing the monsters was more unintentionally comical than scary and the scene was cut from the final film.

“We actually shot that and spent a lot of energy on [the deleted scene], but every time I saw it, I was like this is not going to be tense. It’s just going to be funny,” admitted director Susanne Bier. “At first, [Bullock] was like, ‘I don’t want to see it’ because she thought it was scary. Then it was like, ‘Don’t show it to me because [I’ll laugh].’ Every time I did it, I was like, ‘Shit, that’s a different film.’”

Directed by Susanne Bier, Netflix’s Bird Box is now available to stream, and stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, BD Wong, Sarah Paulson, Colson Baker and John Malkovich.
