Former Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher, the husband of country music superstar Carrie Underwood, is officially an American citizen.

Fisher, who was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, announced his citizenship in an Instagram story posted on Thursday.

“Big day I’m officially American,” Fisher captioned in a photo of himself holding a small American flag.

Fisher, 38, moved to the United States after marrying Underwood in 2010.

He had previously played for the Ottawa Senators, as well as several minor league Canadian teams, before joining the Predators during 2010-11 season.

Fisher spent his final eight NHL seasons in Nashville before retiring in 2018.

He was named the Predators’ sixth captain in 2016 and the first to retire with the team.

Fisher and Underwood have already had an eventful year in 2019.

The couple welcomed their second son, Jacob, in January.

Fisher and Underwood also have a 4-year-old son named Isaiah.

Fisher also announced that he accomplished his lifelong dream of purchasing a horse in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Ever since I was a kid I’ve always wanted horses. Today I got my first! Bojangles is finally home! He’ll have a dancing partner in a couple days,” Fisher wrote.

Congratulations to the former Preds captain!
