The critically-panned musical is getting a fluff-grade.
Per THR, those “Cat-astrophic” effects are about to get an upgrade, as Universal apparently sent notice to thousands of theaters that they will be receiving an updated version of director Tom Hooper’s film with “some improved visual effects.”Sources are telling THR that this move, which is practically unheard of this soon after the actual release date, is being done “at Hooper’s request” as the film’s visual effects were barely completed in time for release. Meanwhile, star Ian McKellen has defended the film’s use of digital fur (over stage costumes).
It’s being reporting that the updated movie will be available for theaters to download Sunday via a satellite server, with those who don’t have access to the server receiving a hard drive by Tuesday.
