CW president on whether All American will get a second season

Fresh off the news that the CW gave early renewals to 10 series, including Supernatural, Legacies, The Flash, and Arrow, CW President Mark Pedowitz took the stage at the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association press tour to talk about the one fall show whose fate is still up in the air: All American.

All American follows high school football star Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) as he balances life between his home in South L.A. and his high school in Beverly Hills. “We are extremely proud of that show,” Pedowitz said, comparing the freshman series’ production quality and storytelling to that of network darlings Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. As for why the show wasn’t picked up, Pedowitz said they will sit down in May and make decisions regarding a second season. “I am very positive about it,” he said. “It is a show I’m proud to support.”

Specifically, Pedowitz said the show will hit Netflix in late March, at which point they’ll see how it fares in out-of-season streaming, which could help its chances. For now, the network will air all 16 episodes of the first season, with Pedowitz calling episode 15 “some of the best TV you’ll ever see.”

All American airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
