Season six of Power will air in August, bringing the popular show to a close. Since it debuted in 2014, the show has built up a dedicated fanbase that’s sad to see it go. 50 Cent, who’s been a part of the series as an actor, consultant, and executive producer, has also expressed that he didn’t want to see it end. But even after Power’s series finale drops on Starz, it won’t be the end of the road for some of these characters. Here’s why.

Starz greenlit a handful of ‘Power’ spinoffs
Late last year, it was reported that showrunner Courtney Kemp signed a deal with the Starz network to produce content in partnership with Lionsgate. That deal included a few spinoffs for Power, and Kemp just announced the first one.
Titled Power Book II: Ghost, the new series will feature Mary J. Blige as a lead. According to Deadline, Kemp and 50 Cent spoke during the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association press tour this week, stating:
“Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power. Power Book II: Ghost will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters.”
IndieWire pointed out that previously, Kemp has teased what the new spinoffs would look like and viewers should count on the series’ trademark unpredictability:
“We will follow some of your beloved ‘Power’ characters beyond the scope of the initial series, but we will play with your expectations of which characters, where, and the master timeline of it all, creating a ‘Power’ universe as unpredictable as the original.”
Mary J. Blige is a ‘Power’ fan who can relate to its world
In addition to being the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,” Blige has
quite the acting chops and will fit right in with Power. The beloved
singer is excited about joining the series and surprised those at the TCA panel
with her appearance when Kemp and 50 Cent made the big announcement. Blige
stated she’s known plenty of “Tashas” and “Ghosts” in her life, referring to
Naturi Naughton’s character of Tasha St. Patrick and Omari
Hardwick’s role as James St. Patrick.
“This is probably going to be the most exciting thing that will happen to me this year. I’ve known so many Tashas, I’ve known so many Ghosts. I’ve dated so many Ghosts. I’ve been a fan of ‘Power’ since the very beginning and I want to thank Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent for starting this conversation with me.”
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is just as thrilled to welcome Blige into the Power family. Variety reports he shared how he and Kemp were in agreement that Blige would be a great addition to the series.
“I said I got to find a replacement for me, we found somebody that Courtney’s gonna have a ball working with because it’s female orientated and somebody who’s got enough juice and grace to make the show even bigger.”
Though the specifics of the first spinoff haven’t been released, it sounds like this one could possibly be a prequel. During an interview with DJ Drama back in February, 50 Cent said that Sean Penn signed on for a Power spinoff called The Golden Era, a series that explores Kanan’s backstory. According to the rapper, the show was in the development stage, so viewers could potentially see Penn, Blige, and 50 Cent sharing Power in the newest TV project.
