Keeping up with the relationships and politics of Game of Thrones is becoming a little easier thanks to the bank of characters growing ever-smaller after massive death counts. It still doesn’t take away the complexity of what’s happening with the relational dynamics of the remaining characters.
Two of those is Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister. As you saw in episode 4, both of them impulsively got it on after years of flirting with each other. While some thought it was the writers giving fans something they’ve been obsessively writing fan fiction over, don’t think the two having sex leads to eternal happiness. Jaime left her for Cersei, and it makes many fans wonder if Brienne will ultimately kill the former.
Brienne and Jamie’s relationship
Brienne and Jaime have already had a close relationship for a while, even if most people considered it just a respectful one as close friends. After all, we all remember how Brienne recently stood up for Jaime in battling the Army of the Dead.
Their respect seemed to stay that way until a drinking game led to Brienne having to admit to being a virgin. When Jaime walked to her room, an overly hot room was a convenient setting for one hot scene.
We know all the sex scenes on Game of Thrones have always been controversial. This one may be the first consensual sex scene not involving incest. By the end of the episode, though, Jaime had to return to King’s Landing due to Cersei killing Rhaegal. Cersei is obviously hellbent on saving herself from being removed from the throne and Jamie appears to want to help her.
Will Brienne feel abandoned?
A lot of fans were unhappy with episode 5 for various reasons. The Brienne/Jaime scene was problematic for the most devoted fans since they considered it a bit of a cop-out, despite its inevitability.
While it’s always possible Jaime will come back to Brienne, their new romance may have also been a major mistake on his part. When acting on impulses, regretful circumstances usually happen. Plus, don’t forget Jaime had feelings for Cersei at one time.
At the end of the show, we saw Brienne start to bawl at Jaime leaving. She perhaps felt like he took advantage of her. After years of having unrequited feelings for a couple of other male characters, Brienne’s experience leading to abandonment may force her to turn as revengeful as Cersei and Daenerys are lately.
Then again, because Jaime is/was almost like a brother to Brienne, she may not feel this mistake should lead to a disastrous outcome.

Let’s never forget when Jaime knighted Brienne in the second episode of this final season. The respect nurtured between the two at that very moment should essentially be enough to keep her from feeling like Jaime took advantage of her.
Many fans think Brienne will go searching for Jaime before the final episode and perhaps stop him from doing something rash. Or, it may lead to a battleground scene in the finale where we see the most pivotal characters left battle it out due to politics and hidden feelings.
One thing the HBO version of Game of Thrones reminds us is what’s buried deep in the psyches of these characters usually manifests eventually. The characters we thought had a certain level of respect or gentility will likely turn to power-hungry madness in the finale.
Whether this means Brienne turning a bit mad herself for feeling betrayed and killing Jaime will be one for the ages. However, we’re more apt to think Cersei will kill Jaime (or vice versa), perhaps placing Brienne in position to venture out and reunite with Jaime as all romantics truly want.
