The Mandalorian premiered exclusively on Disney+ at the streaming platform’s launch date during November 2019. Since then, episodes premiered on a weekly basis, primarily on Fridays, along with other Disney+ original shows like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The latest episode of The Mandalorian may be dropping sooner than expected. IGN reports that the seventh episode of this Star Wars television show premieres on the streaming platform on Dec. 18, 2019, on or around 3 a.m. EDT.
‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ premieres on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019
Why is the new episode of The Mandalorian dropping on a Wednesday instead of a Friday? Some fans presume it’s because the final movie of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, premieres on Friday, Dec. 20. This movie is the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, featuring characters like Rey, Kylo Ren, and even Princess Leia.
According to CinemaBlend, “Lucasfilm is not missing this opportunity for some Star Wars cross-promotion. The Mandalorian Chapter 7/Episode 7 will include an exclusive sneak peek at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
While the characters in The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian are separated by a few years, presumably Disney did not want attention drawn away from one or the other. There is, however, one more episode of The Mandalorian premiering on Disney’s streaming platform later in December 2019.
How many episodes are in the Disney+ original series, ‘The Mandalorian’?
The eighth final episode of this live-action Star Wars television show is set to premiere on Friday, Dec. 27. Don’t worry, though. The series has already been renewed for a second season. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director and writer Jon Favreau discussed the future of this Disney+ original.
“I’m putting a lot of effort [into] working with Dave Filoni to figure out what the overarching story is and the storyline for all these characters and what the world is like,” Jon Favreau said. “We want to make sure that we have a road map because we’re also a puzzle piece that fits into a larger Star Wars universe that has a lot of other movies and a lot of other projects, and we want to make sure we’re consistent with them.”
Episodes of The Mandalorian, in addition to Star Wars movies like The Force Awakens and A New Hope, are available for streaming on Disney+.
