Jeremy Scott parties are famously as lurid and loud as his designs for Moschino.
So fashion-party connoisseurs were baffled to find that his bash on the industry’s most frenzied night of the year appeared to be a flop.
“The [official Met Gala after-party] at the Top of the Standard and the Gucci party at Hunter College were wall-to-wall celebrities,” said a party hopper, “and there was every reason to believe that the Moschino party would be just as good.”
But one source went so far as to call the fête at the Playboy Club a “disaster,” while another called the scene “a debacle.”
A number of sources even told us that rapper (and Diddy offspring) Christian Combs called off a performance because he didn’t want to play to a handful of people in the club’s stage area.
But insiders told us that the bash was always intended to be a “tightknit” party for “friends and family” with a guest list of just 400 people — and that 347 of them showed up.
They said the appearance that some parts of the party were flat-out empty was due to the fact that there are lots of smaller rooms at the club, and that there was an “ebb and flow” between them.
Meanwhile, sources said that Combs didn’t perform because he was having such a good time with Scott, Katy Perry, Maluma and Gwen Stefani in the VIP area that he didn’t want to make everyone move to the stage area to watch him so they “decided to save the performance for another time.”
