It will all be magnificent… eventually.
On April 30th, Saturn will turn retrograde in Capricorn, leading us back over old ground and balancing out our karmic debt. While there may be challenging moments for our zodiac signs, it’s important to keep reminding ourselves that we will eventually see why everything had to happen in the way it did.
In astrology, we only see a Saturn retrograde approximately once every 12 months, and it lasts about four-and-a-half months. This is the time to slow down, to make sure we’re headed in the right direction, and that we’re doing something for the right reasons.
Saturn is the father of the zodiac, and is sometimes even thought of as Father Time as he lords over karma and the divine timing at play in our lives. He’s a meticulous father who wants to make sure we do things correctly, take our time, not cut corners, and that we’re aware of the boundaries in our lives. These boundaries include not just those in our professional lives but also in our personal.
Saturn doesn’t want us taken advantage of. He also doesn’t want there to be an imbalance in our lives. So, during Saturn in retrograde, we’re asked to slow down, to look before we cross, and to make sure we’re focusing on what we’re meant to.
It seems we view karma as negative or positive and even fear it to a degree. We’ve all heard someone say that “Karma is a b****,” but the reality is that it’s not; it’s not good and it’s not bad, it’s just the currency of energy.
Karma is the energetic exchange that we participate in and send out into this world. If we spend our days cheating, stealing, leaving without paying the bill, or gossiping, that is our energetic output. When we attract more of that into our lives, and when those things start happening to us, we say it’s karma, but really it’s just the universe responding to what we’ve already put out there.
Karma is something we must be conscious of balancing out, which is what paying our karmic debt is referring to. Saturn rules karma, which means that this planetary father rules the energy exchange between what we send out and what we receive.
This is not one of many people’s favorite transits or even planets, and it’s because he’s often seen as harsh, unforgiving, or even difficult. But again, that is us putting our energy exchange as the fault of an astrological transit that’s only balancing what we’ve already established as our frequency.
Whether this is energetically or even physically in our lives, for most of us, we only figure out how we want to be loved, what kind of job we desire, and how we want our lives to look from having it not be that way at one time. So, in sweeps Saturn.
Over the course of the next four months, we’re going to encounter many lessons in our lives, many moments when we can choose to stay on the same energetic frequency or upgrade, and where we’re going to start making decisions that will help manifest that new life.

Saturn by himself is a force to be reckoned with, but in Capricorn, another strong masculine father energy, it’s even more amplified. Capricorn is the mountain goat, slowly but carefully trudging up the mountain one step at a time. He doesn’t rush, he doesn’t worry about when he’ll reach the summit, he only focuses on each step in front of him.
While Saturn in Capricorn generally speaks to the foundations we are setting up, the beginnings of a new relationship, or the dynamic at a new job, having the planet retrograde during this transit is pointing us in the direction of evaluating what we’ve already established.
This retrograde isn’t about us just going back over old ground, because it’s also a transit that likes us to seize the opportunities in front of us. It wants us to take chances to say yes when we would have previously said no, but we do need to make sure that everything from our past is taken care of before we move ahead and, of course, that we’ve balanced our karma.
While Saturn retrogrades are a positive aspect for us, if we have been sending out lower energetic exchanges, this might be a time when the tables are turned.
If we have been less than honest, we might see someone close to us doing the same to us. If we were taking people for granted or shirking responsibility, we will be given the chance to see how it feels.
But it’s not all storm clouds and sad faces. For many, maybe even most of us, those who try to do the right thing when it’s not easy, who forgive, who give understanding and work hard, these next few months will hold their own blessings. And once direct on September 18th, we will see the big payoff of why things happened the way they did.
We’ll understand why it felt like things just plain sucked for a period. So even if we’re feeling challenged over the next few months, it’s important to keep going.
We’re all going to encounter difficult times, but we can’t ever run from them, because they’re necessary and are a part of life. And besides, it will all be magnificent someday, maybe even sooner than we think.
