In last night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kanye West announced to fans at an event that he and his family were moving from California to Chicago, Ill., his hometown. His wife, Kim Kardashian, found out when friends started texting her about moving to Chicago during a photo shoot for her beauty brand.
“I have to get there in person face-to-face and see what’s really going on,” Kardashian said.
After the photo shoot, Kardashian flew from Los Angeles to Chicago to confront West about his “insane” announcement.
“That should’ve been a conversation before I see on the Internet you’re moving to Chicago,” Kardashian told West while they sat on a couch in his Chicago office.
West responded that they did have a conversation about moving to Chicago, which Kardashian thought was a joke. “You said we were going to move into mom’s house with all of our kids in a one bedroom,” Kardashian said.
He responded that he’s always serious. “Any conversation I have is serious. I don’t joke. I don’t play.”
The idea of moving to Chicago was just that for Kardashian, an idea. “I can’t really imagine moving to Chicago,” Kardashian said in an interview for the show.
At a family meal following Kardashian’s visit to Chicago, Mason Disick, Kourtney Kardashian, and Scott Disick’s oldest son voiced his feelings about the possible move to Chicago.
“You can’t move to Chicago. Your whole family is here,” Mason said. The young member of the Kardashian family may have voiced what other members of the Kardashian-Jenner were feeling but didn’t say.
Later in the episode, the couple revisited the topic.
During a family dinner after West performed on Saturday Night Live with Lil’ Pump — and ranted while the credits were rolling about Donald Trump — the family brought up the move again.
“To keep him [West] calm, you need to pay him a little more attention,” Kris Kardashian told Kardashian.
“I have a million kids. I have a million jobs. This is all I’ve got,” Kardashian replied. Scott Disick came to Kardashian’s defense saying, “How could she possibly do more?”

In an interview, Kardashian talked about the move in relation to everything she’s got going on in her life.
“I’m really happy that Chicago is such a good place for Kanye,” Kardashian said. “It’s where he grew up, he has so many memories there. There’s a lot he wants to do there. But I definitely feel like I’m being pulled in a million directions. The kids are in school and we have another baby on the way so moving to Chicago would have to be a long conversation and honestly, it might be my breaking point.”
West and Kardashian talk about moving again
At the end of the episode, West and Kardashian revisited the topic of moving to Chicago.
“I was thinking about you being in Chicago and the kids’ schedules and everything,” Kardashian told her husband. “I feel like they’re in school now, I don’t want to uproot them from all of their friends, and their routines, and their cousins, and everything,” she said.
“I think it would be really hard to just take the kids and leave and permanently move to Chicago,” Kardashian added.
To which West replied, “You know when I went to Chicago I felt like I was home. There was a lot of things that I missed just not being there for a long, long, long time.”
“I feel connected. I feel inspired…when we’re there,” West said.
Kardashian told her husband she understood — “I get that” — what Chicago meant to him and suggested a compromise. “I just think that It would be amazing to have a second place in Chicago,” Kardashian said.
“We’re not gonna move full time but we will spend time there because that’s my home too,” West said.
So, don’t expect the Kardashian-West family to permanently move to Chicago from California. But do expect them to spend more time in West’s hometown.
