Microsoft Issues Serious Windows 10 Upgrade Warning – Forbes

Windows 10 updates are a mess. Microsoft has tried making changes, but not the right changes, and now the company is issuing a new warning which should concern millions of Windows 10 users.

Picked up by TechDows, Microsoft has started to display a warning to all Windows 10 users running the 1803 build of the operating system. It reads:

“You’re currently running a version of Windows that’s nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements.”

On the surface, this sounds like a reasonable request. Windows 10 1803 was originally launched in April last year and Microsoft already started pushing users onto Windows 10 1903 in July. The problem is Microsoft’s warning comes before a rapid acceleration of this process and Windows 10 1903 is a bug-filled disaster zone

How do we know it is rapid? Because while the notification warning sounds like a polite suggestion, if you check Microsoft’s Windows life cycle fact sheet you will see Windows 10 1803 will reach “end of service” (aka no longer being supported) on November 10 for Enterprise and Education editions and November 12 for Home, Pro, and Pro for Workstations editions.

Consequently, even those happy on Windows 10 1803 will have no choice but to comply. Meanwhile, in just the last month alone, Windows 1903 updates have broken the Search and the Start Menu (twice), caused USB and audio problems, screen discolouration, spiked CPU usage, failed to install and disconnected users from the Internet

Yes, users must eventually move to newer Windows 10 builds for the latest feature and security updates. But when builds are this bad, I fear the end will not justify the means
