A GoFundMe fundraising page has been set up to aid “Mighty Ducks” star Shaun Weiss, who was arrested last week in upstate California.
Weiss was charged with burglary and for being under the influence of meth by Marysville, California, police Sunday morning and his mugshot sparked national concern for the onetime child star.
Drew Gallagher, who says he met Weiss five years ago when they were working on a TV pilot together, started the GoFundMe page in Weiss’ name and is seeking to raise $25,000 (currently there are $5,000 in pledges).
Gallagher says the money will go toward appropriate medical, psychological and dental assistance. Weiss is being held in a Yuba County jail on $52,500 bail following his arrest.
“Shaun needs serious help,” Gallagher tells USA TODAY. “I’m asking people to help me help him. Wherever the need is most, that’s where the money will go. He’s never hurt anyone, he’s such a good dude. He’s a pure human.”

Sunday’s arrest came after a homeowner in the small northern California city of Marysville, outside of Sacramento, alerted police to “an unknown male inside his garage that did not belong there,” according to a police media release.
Police found Weiss filtering through the resident’s car in the garage after he had apparently gained entry by breaking the passenger window, and arrested him.
In 2018, Weiss was arrested in Oroville, California, for public intoxication.
Weiss is best known as goalie Greg Goldberg from the 1992 comedy “The Mighty Ducks.” The child star also appeared in TV’s “Charles in Charge,” “Boy Meets World,” “Freaks and Geeks,” two seasons of “The Tony Danza Show” and “The King of Queens,” among other projects.
Gallagher says Weiss became severely mentally troubled three years ago with the loss of his parents. That “sent him into depression and so he turned to drugs,” Gallagher writes on the GoFundMe page.
“He is on the brink of death as you can see by these photos and our countless ER visits this year alone,” writes Gallagher.
Weiss is next scheduled to appear in Yuba County Superior Court on Feb. 5 for a pre-hearing conference. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 7.
