A shocking elimination had the remaining “Dancing with the Stars” couples in tears.
USA TODAY

After last week’s heartbreaking semifinals tearjerker, it’s finale time for ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

The ballroom competition show’s Super Bowl airs Monday (live, 8 EST/delayed PST) featuring the four celebrity couples still standing: country singer Lauren Alaina with pro partner  Gleb Savchenko; actor/comedian Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson; pop star Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber; and “Bachelorette” Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten.

Only one will take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.

The finale features all 12 contestants from the reality competition returning for a dance, but culminates with a big showdown, as viewers vote and judges hand their verdicts on two dances from each remaining couple.

“The four finalists are pretty incredible performers,” says judge Carrie Ann Inaba, via email. “This finale will be very close.”

Here’s breakdown of each couple.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ heartbreak: James Van Der Beek handed heartbreak on top of real sorrow

Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten

The “Bachelorette” star, 25, has finally found her dream partner, even if it’s only for the dance floor. A solid dancer, Brown’s displayed major improvement in her troublesome Latin dances, but won’t need it because a Viennese waltz and freestyle are slated for the finale.

Pro: Brown just won a People’s Choice award for her stint on “Bachelorette,” proving she’s a clear fan favorite and the most recognizable name on the dance floor. She’s stepped up as dancer and the Viennese waltz plays directly into her strengths as a graceful performer.

Con:  Maybe it’s the reality show pedigree for the ABC reality-show fixture, but Brown can get tripped up in her own dance drama leading to mistakes. “If she can stay out of her head, she could be our next champion,” Inaba says.

GoldDerby odds: The favorite at 8/15

Brown’s view: “I’ve improved so much in my dancing and performing in front of an audience, which I’d never done before.  And my fans are so supportive, all the way since ‘The Bachelor.'”

Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko

The country singer (and “American Idol” runner-up), 25, has shown she can do almost any dance, including twerking during one memorable moment. She’ll perform a foxtrot and freestyle dance Monday.

Pro: Fans adore the infectiously lovable Alaina, a solid dancer with an even more impressive base of support. Don’t mess with country stars (as underdog, underskilled champion Bobby Bones proved last season) on “DWTS.”

Con: Alaina’s dancing can be inconsistent. “She’s been having a rougher last few weeks, but she’s got something very special when it all comes together,” Inaba says.

GoldDerby odds: 13/1

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson

Inaba calls Mitchell, at 41 the oldest of the group,  “the surprise of the season.” He’ll perform a jazz and freestyle dance.

Pro: The jazz and freestyle dances on tap for Monday night will play into Mitchell’s strengths. “He’s charismatic and his frame and hold have been stellar these last rounds and that’s what it takes to win this season,” Inaba says.

Con: Mitchell, an amazing freestyle dancer who commands the floor, had to learn ballroom rules to satisfy the judges. It took time.

GoldDerby odds: 8/1

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber

Brooke, 26, is the top dancer,  receiving the most ’10’ scores from judges. Her generous offer to let ousted dancer James Van Der Beek take her place in the finals showed true heart last week. She’ll perform a foxtrot and freestyle dance.

Pro: Brooke is the best all-around dancer,  brings a stunning performance to every dance and is working her way into America’s hearts. “She’s got the eye of the tiger if you ask me,” Inaba says.

Con: The “Fifth Harmony” member was almost voted off the show in an episode after pulling  straight 10s from judges. It was one of three trips to the bottom two, including last week. She’s still searching for her fan base.

GoldDerby odds: 5/1
