Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a ‘reminder not to overeat’ on Thanksgiving, and fans are mad

This Thanksgiving, Sarah Michelle Gellar is learning that her large social media following isn’t necessarily something to be thankful for.

Gellar posted a series of revealing throwback photos to her Instagram Monday showing her wearing black lingerie, accompanied by the caption, “I’m just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday.”

The post attracted some celebrity admirers, with Debra Messing commenting, “Are you KIDDING ME!?!” and Tiffani Thiessen writing, “Is it weird if I pin these pics of you in my house too?”

But along with praise from Gellar’s Hollywood friends were many commenters criticizing the actress for promoting unhealthy eating habits.

“Live your life girl!! Eat the delicious food!! Don’t worry about tomorrow!” one Instagram user wrote, while others took a more combative tone.

“Wow. Really shocked that a woman in a position of influence and a mother would post this (expletive),” read another comment. “Is that where you place your value? On the size of your thighs? Or your protruding hip bones? Nothing positive comes from this post. Only narcissism and the (expletive) theory that women need to be skinny to be acceptable. You should remove this post. Immediate unfollow from me.”

“I think she’s great and obviously very beautiful, but the caption was pretty sad and disappointing but that’s just my opinion and I’m pretty sure it was a joke,” read another comment.

Some commenters also stood up for Gellar, defending her post.

“There will always be people who criticize and politicize anything because they have to make everything about them,” read one comment. “Ignore them. Most women have the same concerns at the holidays and while our reminder pics aren’t so awesome, we still use them.”

“Nothing wrong with not wanting to overeat on Thanksgiving,” another commenter shared. “I feel like y’all are hiding her on a post that she prob meant to share because she felt beautiful that day. It’s a throwback and she looks amazing.”
