Mayor Bill de Blasio just got a full Saturday Night Live takedown.
The latest episode of the comedy classic featured a wild, 8-minute musical skit skewering New York’s LaGuardia Airport — with Hizzoner as the punchline.
The skit featured Jake Gyllenhaal in PJs and ended with David Byrne leading the star-studded cast on a rendition of his Talking Heads classic “Road to Nowhere” as the cast griped about the Queen’s airport.
Fan-favorite Kate McKinnon came out dressed as Orphan Annie to sum up the feelings of most fed-up New Yorkers.
“I can tell you who you can blame!” she said, breaking into song to the melody of the musical’s best-known number, “Tomorrow.”
“When anything’s bad — de Blasio! Throw your hands up and say, ‘de Blasio,’” sang McKinnon, wearing an Annie wig and an Auntie Anne’s apron.
“I know some of it was Mike Bloomberg, but it still feels like de Blasio is to blame,” she sang of the previous mayor still running for president.
Complaining about “bike lanes on the tarmac” and how “taxis must stay three miles away” from the airport, she was joined by Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson and host John Mulaney for a de Blasio bashing chorus.
“De Blasio! De Blasio! The cops hate de Blasio,” they sang, referring to hostilities that are so severe the NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association even declared “war” with him.
The skit had started with Pete Davidson trying to buy sushi from an airport store run by Mulaney — with Thompson coming in dressed as the “Phantom of the Opera” to warn him of the danger he would face.
“You’d honestly be so much better off eating a Wuhan snake,” the sushi “chef,” played by Strong, quipped of the Chinese city at the epicenter of the coronavirus sweeping the planet.
Bowen Yang came out with a face mask for another coronavirus quip, saying he was “not suck but a profiled Asian” — also saying, “No, I wasn’t in ‘Parasite.’”
Arguably the oddest moment came with Gyllenhaal’s arrival as the “guy who travels in pajamas,” singing for TSA agents, “I’ll stretch my legs real wide — I’ll even bend over for you, you can take a peek inside.”
New York rock legend Byrne came out as the “baggage handler who tosses everyone’s suitcases into Long Island Sound,” as Mulaney put it.
“If you stay here long enough you will learn the mysteries of LaGuardia,” Byrne told the others — leading them on a skit-ending rendition of his famous tune with the lyrics changed to “Plane to Nowhere.”
