Star Wars‘ own JJ Abrams and Key and Peele‘s Jordan Peele have teamed up to produce HBO’s Lovecraft Country, which we’ve now got the first trailer for.
Hot on the heels of spectacular series Watchmen and The Outsider, the US network has brought Matt Ruff’s novel of the same name to life, which mashes cosmic horror with “the racist terrors of white America”.
The 10-episode series is set to debut on screens this August.

According to the official synopsis, The Last Black Man in San Francisco‘s Jonathan Majors plays Atticus Freeman, who “joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father.
“This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a [HP] Lovecraft paperback.”
Judging from the footage and the involvement of both Abrams and Peele, Lovecraft Country has all the tools to be HBO’s next sensation.

Known for his politically-laced horror projects Get Out and Us, Peele has quickly become one of the biggest names in Hollywood over the last couple of years.
As well as Lovecraft Country, the 41-year-old is producing this year’s Candyman remake and recently teamed up with Amazon Studios for Nazi-hunting show Hunters, starring Al Pacino.
Lovecraft Country arrives on HBO this August.
