Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker Taika Waititi is on board to direct, co-write, and executive-produce a TV show based on the 1981 fantasy film Time Bandits for Apple, EW has learned.
Directed by Terry Gilliam (Brazil, the upcoming The Man Who Killed Don Quixote), the original Time Bandits follows the adventures of a boy named Kevin (Craig Warnock) who travels to ancient Greece and Italy during the Napoleonic Wars, among other times and places, in the company of six dwarves. The film’s cast also featured Sean Connery, David Rappaport, Kenny Baker, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ian Holm, MIchael Palin, Ralph Richardson, David Warner, and the late Katherine Helmond.
Waititi’s previous directorial credits include 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows and 2016’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He is also an executive producer on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows TV series, which premieres March 27.
