It’s been two years since the third season of Search Party wrapped production, and it’s finally headed our way now, thanks to HBO Max.
In its first two seasons, which aired on TBS, the series focused on Dory (Alia Shawkat), a New Yorker whose life starts to unravel as she and her friends investigate the disappearance of one of her college acquaintances. The third season sees the characters swept up in a courtroom drama, as Dory’s arrest at the end of season 2 has made her infamous.
“It becomes this kind of Amanda Knox case,” Shawkat said of the upcoming season, referring to a case in which a woman studying abroad in Italy was accused of murdering a fellow exchange student, and the media frenzy around the incident was thought to have swayed the initial ruling.
The trailer highlights just how the characters are dealing with their newfound infamy, as they struggle to figure out if there’s a leak among them, and how to balance both fame and friendship.
All 10 episodes of the third season will drop on HBO Max on June 25.
