When Are ‘Elf’ and Other Holiday Movies on TV on Christmas Day 2018? – The Cheat Sheet

The presents are unwrapped and the big holiday meal has been eaten. If you’re looking for some entertainment to fill the rest of your holiday, there’s plenty on TV this Christmas Day. Whether you’re a fan of Elf or count A Christmas Story as your favorite holiday movie, here’s what’s airing when on Christmas Day 2018.

Several channels will mark the holiday by airing marathons of favorite Christmas movies.

The annual 24-hour A Christmas Story marathon is on TBS and TNT beginning at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

If you’re a Macaulay Culkin fan, Starz will be airing Home Alone, followed by the sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, beginning at 7 a.m. Christmas Day through 6:30 p.m.

Those who are convinced that Die Hard is a Christmas movie will be happy to know that IFC will air the Bruce Willis action flick continuously starting at 12 p.m.

You can also see Bill Murray in Scrooged on Starz Encore, which will air the 1988 take on the Dickens story for 24 hours straight starting at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve. If you’d prefer a more traditional take on the classic tale, FXM is having a marathon of the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol starring Alistair Sim.

Finally, both Hallmark and Lifetime will be airing original holiday movies all-day on Christmas.

When is Elf on TV on Christmas Day?

AMC is the only network airing the Will Ferrell holiday comedy Elf this year. On Christmas Day, you can catch it at 5:30 p.m. Here’s the entire AMC Christmas Day TV schedule:

  • The Year Without a Santa Clause: 11:45 a.m.
  • The Polar Express: 1 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
  • The Santa Clause 2: 3 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
  • Elf: 5:30 p.m.
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: 7:30 p.m.

Freeform’s “25 Days of Christmas” wraps up

Freeform’s holiday programming block, “25 Days of Christmas,” wraps up on Christmas Day. Here’s what’s airing on December 25 on that network:

  • Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas: 8 a.m.
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas: 11 a.m.
  • Disney’s A Christmas Carol: 12:40 p.m.
  • Disney’s Meet the Robinsons: 2:40 p.m.
  • The Santa Clause: 4:45 p.m.
  • The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Claus: 6:50 p.m.

Meanwhile, on ABC, Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade airs Christmas morning at 10 a.m.

  • A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • The Night Before at 12 p.m.
