The average person who saw the Chris Pratt/Katherine Schwarzenegger engagement announcement while scrolling through Instagram might have been like, “Wait, they’re dating?” And although they got engaged after being together for, like, seven months, a source said they don’t feel like they’re rushing things.
“For someone on the outside, it might seem their engagement came too quickly,” a source told People. “But for everyone close to them, it feels like they have been dating much longer than they actually have.”
The two got together this past June. Katherine’s mom Maria Shriver was the one to introduce them, which reportedly helped them get to know each other faster.
“They never had a typical relationship. It very much helped that Chris already knew Maria. They didn’t have to take things slowly because they were getting to know each other’s families. Katherine’s family instantly treated Chris like a family member,” the source added.
The two have made a conscious effort to include each other’s families in their lives. They’ve not only gone on double dates with Pratt’s ex Anna Farris and her new boyfriend, but Chris reached out to Anna before he proposed to Katherine. He also went to Mexico with her family for New Year’s Eve.
“Chris has been very straightforward about his intentions from the beginning,” the source said. “Over the last few months, he’s been bonding with all of Katherine’s siblings and it was clear to her entire family they would get married.”
He even asked her parents for permission to propose, which is adorable. Congrats guys!
