Toni Collette didn’t get any love from the Oscars for her appearance in the terrifying Hereditary. But the actress’ unforgettable performance as a grief-stricken mother has been recognized by the readers of the horror magazine Fangoria. On Sunday night, the publication released the winners of its annual Chainsaw Awards, with Collette winning the Best Actress category. Hereditary also won prizes for Best Supporting Actor (Alex Wolff), Best Director (Ari Aster), Best Screenplay (Aster), Best Kill, and Best-Wide Release Movie.
The winner of the Best Limited-Release Movie was director Panos Cosmatos’ revenge-thriller Mandy, with that film’s star, Nicolas Cage, winning the Best Actor category and late composer Jóhann Jóhannson winning Best Score. The remake of Suspiria won awards for Best Makeup FX (Mark Coulier) and Best Supporting Actress (Tilda Swinton), Terrified won Best Foreign Language Movie, The Ritual won Best Creature FX (Sierra Russell and Josh Russell), the Mike Flanagan-directed The Haunting of Hill House won Best Series, and Bird Box won Best Streaming Premiere Movie.
