Destiny 2: Savathun’s Eyes locations, Ruinous Effigy catalyst guide – Polygon

Destiny 2’s new Ruinous Effigy trace rifle comes with an odd Catalyst object: get 5,000 kills with the new trace rifle or destroy all 50 of Savathun’s Eyes strewn about Destiny 2’s worlds and activities.

While you could just use the gun to get 5,000 kills, it will take far less time to just find the Eyes — assuming you’re still doing this quest during Season of Arrivals, before Sept. 22, 2020. Bungie has hidden all 50 Eyes around Io, Mars, Mercury, Titan, The Whisper mission and the new Prophecy dungeon. You can only destroy them with Ruinous Effigy, so make sure you go grab it before you start hunting for eyes.

The Exotic Catalyst adds a new perk to the weapon. Enemies players damage with one of Ruinous Effigy’s Transmutation spheres take more damage from Ruinous Effigy’s beam. To get the Catalyst to drop, make sure you defeat an enemy with the Ruinous Effigy and then use its Transformation Sphere to kill another enemy.

Below, you’ll find the locations for each of Savathun’s Eyes, complete with an image of the map (if applicable) and the image of the Eye itself. When you destroy a little over half of Savathun’s Eyes, you’ll complete the Catalyst. You’ll need to destroy the rest for the Hive-God Optometrist Triumph, needed for the Moments of Triumph 2020 Seal and the Forerunner Arrivals Seal.

28. The Lighthouse – Tower, left

Image: Bungie via Polygon

During the Vex Crossroads Public Event, make your way to the far left tower. After defeating the mini-boss and dunking the orbs, look to the back for the crystals. Turn around and you’ll find the Eye tucked behind a box on the second level.

Prophecy Dungeon

There are five Eyes in the Prophecy dungeon.

41. Phalanx encounter – Holes

41. Wasteland – Pillar

Image: Bungie via Polygon

From where you land in the Wasteland, travel northeast until you reach the big pillar lodged in the sand — a piece of the Pyramidion on Io. The Eye is behind the pillar. If you’re having trouble finding it, Sparrow around the Wasteland, just inside the boundary until you run into it.

43. Hexahedron – Ceiling

Image: Bungie via Polygon

Once you defeat the Hexahedron encounter, look away from the exit, on the opposite side. Near the ceiling, you’ll see two L-shaped pillars. There is an Eye inside one of the pillars.

44. Deadsea – Secret

Image: Bungie via Polygon

In the Deadsea, make your way to the final diamond. Instead of jumping into the gravity lift, turn right and jump into the secret gap between two squares. Follow the path until you reach another gap, which you normally jump over for the hidden chest. Instead, look down and you’ll see another Eye.

Note that you can’t get into the final diamond if you don’t follow the ribbon the entire way down.

45. Kell Echo – Hidden

Image: Bungie via Polygon

This is the hardest Eye to get. Fight the Kell Echo like normal, but do not kill him in one damage phase. Repeat the mote-collection part of the boss fight until the three-pillar, raised platform is on the ceiling, and you’re in the room with two spheres with rings around them. You’ll see the Eye on the ceiling.

If you don’t get this room on your first try, you need to get to the damage phase again and not kill the boss. You do not need to restart the boss for this Eye. Just keep going, not killing the boss, until you can see the Eye tucked away in part of the ceiling.

The Whisper mission

There are five Eyes in The Whisper mission.

46. Entrance

Image: Bungie via Polygon

Launch into The Whisper mission on Io and drop down the pit, after destroying the Blight. The first Eye is impossible to miss, and is right above where you crouch into the large piston room.

47. Red Room

Image: Bungie via Polygon

In the Red Room, sometimes known as the boop room (with the Vandal snipers), look left immediately to find the Eye.

48. Green Room

Image: Bungie via Polygon

When you reach the Green Room, with the nice music, look forward and you’ll see the Eye sitting in the gap.

49. Low path

Image: Bungie via Polygon

From where you shot the Green Room Eye, turn around and crouch through the small hole and into the lower caverns. Walk forward and turn left to find the Eye.

50. Cavern

Image: Bungie via Polygon

From the lower cavern, keep going forward until you reach the cylinder. Instead of walking around the entire cylinder, look right for a piece of the cliff. Jump over to the cliff and then look to your right. Very far away, you’ll find the final Eye.
