Destiny 2
Later this afternoon, Destiny 2’s new Season of the Worthy will launch, with the return of Trials of Osiris happening a few days later on Friday. It’s a big moment for the game, but Bungie has done something a bit different this time around. After taking feedback from many players (myself included) they have done a lot less previewing this time around of what’s actually coming.
That includes not really describing many upcoming activities in detail, leaving things off the roadmap, and in general just being a little mysterious. On the one hand, that could give the impression this is a lighter season, on the other, it’s entirely possible it’s a lot more substantive than they’re letting on. We also haven’t heard much about a few larger game issues that I’ll detail as well.
I’m going to make a running list of what we don’t know about Season of the Worthy, and then update it as answers roll in over the next few hours, days or even weeks. There’s a lot here, so bear with me.
Destiny 2
Does Season of the Worthy have actual story missions? – None are listed on the roadmap, and while we know the general “story” of the season, the Almighty crashing into Earth, we don’t know if there’s say, a mission where we go back to the Almighty to stop it (again). It stands to reason there would be, but if so, Bungie hasn’t even hinted at story quests this season.
What are Seraph Towers? – This is a free “public event” activity as part of the PvE content for this season, but we don’t know if it’s on the scale of say, Cabal Mining or Escalation Protocol.
What are Seraph Bunkers? – Again, this is more free content, but we don’t know what’s actually inside these bunkers. I assume an encounter like maybe a Forge, but I have kind of been thrown off that this is part of the free content as well.
What are Legendary Lost Sectors? – This is finally moving into paid PvE content. These could be redesigned current Lost Sectors to be harder, perhaps with matchmaking for three players and modifiers, or they might be new ones (though I kind of doubt it). Why is this paid and the other stuff free, I wonder?
Update: A new vidoc answers some of these…to some extent. Watch it!
Destiny 2
What is the loot for all three of these? – Bungie has shown off the seasonal armor set, but only four “Russian” themed guns, and two others on the battle pass. A lesser loot pool than Dawn, but on par with Undying. The roadmap only lists the legendary guns and armor under the Seraph Tower event, but is this stuff rewarded for all three activities? Is the loot pool as small as it looks?
How are Grandmaster Nightfalls harder? – These are not coming until April, but we don’t know what exactly makes them different from current 980 Master Nightfalls. More champions? Super high power requirement? Contest modifier?
What are the rewards for Grandmaster Nightfalls? – Again, with 980s giving out Ascendant Shards and exotics, I genuinely have no idea what “pinnacle” rewards may come from GM Nightfalls. Masterworked, high stat armor? Unique loot? Just better exotic and shard drop rates? We have no idea. Also, are 950-980s staying the same with the same rewards despite that we will soon overlevel them?
What are the Guardian Games? – This is a brand new holiday event replacing The Revelry that we know nothing about, only that it’s a class competition and it could be PvP based, judging by the trailer. But I am extremely curious to know more about it.
Do Trials Boons and Bounties exist? – We’ve heard a lot of about Trials, but we don’t know if Boons are confirmed to be returning to do things like forgive losses. And bounties for those who can’t get to the highest tiers of the cards, so everyone else has something to shoot for.
Destiny 2
What are Flawless Lighthouse Rewards? – The only things we know for sure are that you get a glow every week if you’ve gone flawless on Trials armor and that there is also a new “Flawless” title that will no doubt require going Flawless. But what else is coming? Are Adept weapons returning?
What’s the third exotic? – We know that it’s the Cabal Slug launcher, but we don’t know if it will have its own exotic quest (or if that quest could be for Fourth Horseman) or how it arrives (or what it does?). We also don’t know what any of the new exotic armor is.
Are we getting a Zero Hour quest? – I would not expect Bungie to talk about this ahead of time at all, but it does seem like it’s about time for another big mystery secret quest like Whisper or Zero Hour, so I wonder if one is coming.
Are bounty and activity XP getting adjusted? – Everyone complained that artifact and season pass ranking was too reliant on bounties, but we have not heard anything about XP values being adjusted anywhere, so everyone is just bounty stacking as usual.
Will more exotics be anti-champion? – Again, another common complaint, but we have heard nothing about exotics either getting an anti-champion mod slot or more exotics getting intrinsic anti-champion perks.
Is anything at all happening with Escalation Protocol this season? – I feel like if it was we would have heard about it, but it does seem strange to have all this Rasputin focus and not refresh EP or its gear in any way at all.
I may had more to this as time goes on, but check back for changes I make once patch notes hit or the season goes live. But many of these may not be answered for a while, if ever. Stay tuned.
