Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has revealed that she was up for – and ultimately lost out on – a role in a Star Wars movie.
The actor, who joined the ever-expanding MCU as Carol Danvers back in 2019, launched her new YouTube channel yesterday (July 2), and chatted about her love of the space opera franchise and a bunch of her past auditions with a friend in her first video.
“I auditioned for Star Wars too,” the 30-year-old admitted. “I auditioned for Hunger Games, I auditioned for the Terminator reboot.

“I actually was thinking about the Terminator reboot today because I got a flat tyre and I was like, ‘Oh the last time I got a flat tyre was when I was driving into my audition for Terminator,” she laughed. “Got a flat tyre at the audition, and then didn’t get the job.”
While Larson refrained from detailing which specific parts she tried to bag, fans have speculated that, with Star Wars, it was either Rey (who went on to be played by Daisy Ridley when she was introduced in The Force Awakens) or Rogue One protagonist Jyn Erso (who was brought to life by The Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones).
When it comes to The Hunger Games and Terminator: Genisys, it seems likely that Larson auditioned for Jennifer Lawrence’s role as Katniss Everdeen and Emilia Clarke’s Sarah Connor, respectively.

Even though she didn’t quite manage to land a role within the sequel trilogy, many are hopeful that they might see Jedi-wannabe Larson somewhere in the series later down the line – particularly now she’s a part of the Disney family, and the studio execs have already announced that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is working on “a new era of Star Wars“.
“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox,” Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer, said last year.
Captain Marvel is out now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
