‘Captain America’ Actor Sees Texas Lawmaker Dan Crenshaw’s ‘Captain America’ Glass Eye – Newsweek

Not many people see what’s underneath Dan Crenshaw’s eye patch. But on Friday, when the actor who portrays “Captain America” in the upcoming Marvel “Avenger” series stopped by for a visit, Crenshaw showed both America and the world what’s behind it.

Actor Chris Evans plays the role of “Captain America” in an upcoming film. Crenshaw is a former Navy SEAL who lost his right eye in combat during his third tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2012 from an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Helmand province.

Crenshaw regained sight in his left eye and, foregoing doctors’ orders, went back for two more tours of duty—once in the Middle East and once in South Korea—according to the biography on his congressional website.

Crenshaw, who retired as a naval Lieutenant Commander in 2016, earned two Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, among many other medals and citations.

After retirement, Crenshaw made the decision to go into the public service sector of government work.

Crenshaw has a replacement glass eye, he wears an eye patch and won the 2nd Congressional District seat from Houston in the 2018 election.

Evans visited Crenshaw on Friday, and the encounter couldn’t have been more perfectly-timed. Crenshaw’s office tweeted a photo of the former SEAL raising his now-famous eye patch and revealing the Captain America emblem on his glass eye, and the tweet read “When Captain America sees your Captain America glass eye.”

Crenshaw is a Republican representative from Texas who gets far less national press than his Democratic freshman counterparts on the far left this new congressional term.

Crenshaw first gained notoriety by winning his district’s congressional seat, but he was quickly thrust into the spotlight when Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson poked fun of Crenshaw’s eye patch.

One week later, Crenshaw appeared on SNL’s Weekend Update segment, and the two personalities hashed out any differences and biases—especially after Davidson caught backlash through social media.

Moving forward to now, Evans will play Captain America in Avengers: Endgame.

Crenshaw’s notorious freshman representative colleagues who serve on the Democrat side—Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib—have all used social media as a constant platform for their agendas, and it’s recently caused a rift in the Democratic Party as Speaker Nancy Pelosi tries diffusing any fragmentation within the party.

Meanwhile, Crenshaw, a multi-generation Texan, has been a little more low-key on social media but upbeat in the Lone Star State’s red-leaning ways.
