Giorgio Moroder, Thomas Dolby, Holly Herndon and more pay tribute to Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider – Resident Advisor

Carl Craig, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Sunil Sharpe were among the diverse array of electronic musicians reacting to the death of the massively influential German artist.

Tributes to Kraftwerk cofounder Florian Schneider poured in across social media after news of his passing.

The scope of Schneider’s influence came into focus via testimonials from fellow pioneers (Giorgio Moroder, Egyptian Lover), synth pop icons (Thomas Dolby, Orchestral Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark), labels like Dark Entries and Ninja Tune, and various innovators and iconoclasts spanning the full spectrum of electronic music.

Very saddened by the news of Florian Schneider´s passing. It was Florian who invited me to join Kraftwerk in early1971. He was a very inspiring musician and has left a big mark in the world of electronic music. My condolences go out to his loved ones. https://t.co/XFe7sw3LVU

R.I.P. Florian Schneider-Esleben, co-founder of Kraftwerk, after a battle with cancer. His music changed my life at a young age and will forever be part of the genetic makeup of the electronic world. Could post things Kraftwerk related I adore all night. As a child I was spellbound, as a teenager besotted, as an adult in awe. Florian helped form the sound of contemporary music & he’ll live on with one of the finest catalogues ever & all those he passionately inspired. R.I.P pic.twitter.com/yycjsuDTiK

Rest In Peace Florian Schneider, co-founder of my favorite group Kraftwerk, who passed away at the age of 73. Thank you for all your creativity and the inspiration you and the other members of Kraftwerk have given me to become who I am today. There’s no me without you. #Kraftwerk pic.twitter.com/bNn9GLKo0y

If you’re going to count, on one hand, the music that actually changed everything your world is built on… wow. RIP Florian.

Total game changer, one of the reasons we have the scene/industry/electronic music as we know it today. When the years and decades move on even more, Kraftwerk’s entry into popular music + the ripples it caused, will be recognised more and more. RIP Florian #FlorianSchneider https://t.co/rXpIDR14vx
