During her latest Q&A on her YouTube channel, Ronda Rousey was asked about Asuka and the way her match at TLC was affected by Rousey’s involvement. That is to say, Asuka is quite literally champion because of Ronda, so what does she think of her?
”I have a lot of respect for Asuka and I always have. I didn’t really want to rain on her parade at the Royal Rumble. I always wanted to come out and congratulate her and bring more eyes to her incredible moment. She didn’t seem too thrilled about that. At TLC, both Charlotte and Becky are just a bunch of cheaters and they had it coming to them. So, you know, I just thought that… you know, I don’t have to explain my actions to anybody, I was completely justified in my actions. Payback’s a bitch. Asuka deserves to be champ more than either of them. She’s never had to cheat. She’s never had to walk out of a match because she was losing. She’s just the best. Now she’s the champ and all is as it should be.”
When she’s asked about Asuka feeling deserving of the title, considering the way the match was going before Rousey interfered:
”I don’t think Asuka owes me anything and I think if Asuka has any doubts as to whether or not she deserves that title then all she needs to do is defend that title and she won’t feel that way anymore.”
Can’t argue with that logic!
Asuka, of course, did defend that title against Naomi on SmackDown Live this past week and she emerged victorious. The funny thing to think about here is that while all the heat is on Rousey vs. Becky Lynch or Charlotte, Rousey vs. Asuka, were it to ever happen, could be a better match than any of the others.
Maybe someday.
